Real Versus Virtual Stores

It's that time when Americans shop 'till they drop and internet sales are growing at 8 to 10 percent each year.

But Florida Retail Federation President Scott Shalley says 91 percent of consumers will still visit brick and mortar stores for holiday purchases.

"Some of the reasons consumers prefer the in-store experience include the ability to see, touch, or try on merchandise; the ability to get the item immediately; not wanting to pay for shipping; ease of returning or exchanging the item; the convenience of one-stop shopping," he said.

Shalley says brick and mortar retailers are responding to the rise in online shopping by setting up their own web sites and virtual shops.

He adds that 96 percent of shoppers plan to make purchases from businesses that have retail stores combined with online operations.
