Budman Back From Boston!
It was good to be back with you this morning after a long weekend up north enjoying a reunion with my old friends from my college singing group, The Colgate 13. It was great fun, as it always is, to be with dear friends you've known for so many years, but I'll admit, horsing around and acting like I'm 20 takes more of a toll on the ol' Budman than it used to! Is it time to start pacing myself? Nah! No WAY!
Two quick thoughts from my trip. Every last one of the guys in my college singing group is at the traditional retirement age, and, as I discovered this weekend, not one is retired! A few are just workaholics who wouldn't know what to do with themselves in retirement, but most are continuing to work because they can't afford to stop. As one of my buddies said, "For our generation, 'retirement' is being removed from the vocabulary." I guarantee you none of us during our college days would have imagined needing to keep working at this age. What a stark commentary on how the economy of this country has changed in recent years.
My other thought from the trip to Boston - how does anybody survive in that climate?!! LOL!
